precious cooperation agreement in which the prosecutors go hand in hand with someone who they acknowledge as a criminal in order to catch other criminals, and it is a significant development, because as a defense attorney, it is easy for me to say this, but the reality is that the pros ecutors don t want people the tell them what they want to hear. they want someone who will tell them the truth and a truth that can be verified, backed up and for which there is corroborating evidence. for example, michael has backed up data, and seized with southern district with the phone, and i don t know if it is apocryphal, but they took the phone right out of his hand when they searched the warrant, and so since then he has provided information through those
the emerging defense we heard from the president on the lawn. what we re talking about is the first deep written evidence with a confession from someone inside the trump organization that they had actively, ongoingly done outreach to the kremlin to try to enrich themselves and make money and they lied about it, and one of them lied about it to congress in a felonious manner. as we say in the law, craig, that is a biggie. you know what, you say that, though, but the reality is as you know lying to congress is not something that is frequently prosecuted. this does not seem to be something that prosecutors go after on a regular basis. bingo. what was it about this particular lie to congress that led to the special counsel s office deciding to prosecute and charge? you ask a great question about what s not in the picture, what s outside of the painting, craig as you so often do because of your able journalistic mind, what you re getting at is these
jurors now have to deal with. first, it s an issue of liability. is aeg liable? first of all, did they hire dr. conrad murray? then, were they genegligent in that hiring? this gets to be a thorny issue because it involves privacy rights. assuming aeg is liable, then we get to the issue of damage calculatio calculations. this could go into the billions with a b of dollars when we re talking about the money that he would have made from his concert tours that s how they calculate this. that s part of it. that s the big part. but ongoingly through his life. then there s the other damages relating to his family being deprived of his love and affection and the ongoing relationship. but wait, there s more. even if they find that there is liability and they calculate those damages, then they have to go on and determine whether or not michael jackson had any role in hastening his own demise.
we ve done that ongoingly and will continue to do that. not just to avoid the sort of antics that you saw over the last 24 hours. most recently with the white house press briefing. but for the substantive merits, and the message that it sends to people all across the country. and that is what i hope is not lost in the words of vice president biden yesterday. he said some very powerful things. he talked about being moved by the individual story of a couple that he met and their children, and so substantively i think it makes a huge difference all across the country. and the circumstances of people s lives. i think it would certainly energize people out there, some segments of the electorate out there, and of course, we re fighting, you know, in a number of states across the country to preserve marriage equality, and maryland, in washington, and of course, north carolina, and minnesota, and trying to fight a pro-active ballot measure in maine. so i understand the complexities of it. but
trouble before on this front. look at what happened to to john kerry back in 2004 when karl rove and don king and those people connived with the cuyahoga county black ministers and cost him that state. so this is tricky business. what do you think the president wants to do here? what s your sense? you re his ally. well, you know, i think sam s absolutely right when he said that allies, and myself among them, have pushed the president, have pushed the administration to come out in support of marriage equality. we ve done that ongoingly and will continue to do that. not just to avoid the sort of antics that you saw over the last 24 hours. most recently with the white house press briefing. but for the substantive merits, and the message that it sends to people all across the country. and that is what i hope is not lost in the words of vice president biden yesterday. he said some very powerful things. he talked about being moved by the individual story of a couple that he met, and thei
