ASABA – Newly promoted Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ali on Wednesday evening assumed duty in Delta State Police Command, with a promise to leverage on the already existing security apparatus to fight crimes across the State.
According to a statement by the Command Public relations officer, DSP Oneme Onovughagbogaya, Ali, a thorough bred police officer took over the mantle of the command from the newly elevated AIG, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa, who was redeployed to Zone 13.
The statement added that the State Police boss was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990 and attended the elite Police Academy Kaduna.
“Ali hails from Doma LGA of Nasarawa State, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library/Political Science from the University of Maiduguri, a Master of Science in Industrial Relations from the Delta State University, Abraka and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial Relations from Irish University Business School, Penbroke Square, UK”.
ASABA – Suspected herdsmen have Reportedly killed a PDP councillorship candidate, Mr. Ofa Elliot while two others were kidnapped on Monday evening.
Late Eliot and the kidnapped councilors were bid to contest the forth coming March 6, 2021 Local Government Council elections in Delta State.
It was learnt that Mr. Eliot who had clinched the PDP councillorship ticket for Ward 8, Ethiope West council was Reportedly shot dead while returning from the DSIEC screening exercise to Oghara, his home town.
The deceased was the immediate past supervisor of Environment for Ethiope West LGA and also ran Hotel business in Oghara
According to sources, Eliot was successfully screened along with the two of his colleagues in Asaba, the State capital.
Head of operations, Delta State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bakare Fatai Adesina, yesterday, confirmed the death of no fewer than 15 persons in an auto crash at Alifikede, near Agbor in Ika South Council of the state.
The Guardian learnt that the fatal accident occurred about 2.15pm, as a luxurious bus ran into a Toyota Sienna car, which was plying one-way lane along the Asaba/Benin expressway.
Eyewitness said five persons died on the spot, while men of the FRSC rushed other passengers, who sustained injuries to a nearby hospital where others passed away.
When contacted, Head of Operations of the state command of FRSC, Bakare Fatai Adesina confirmed the accident, saying he was yet to get details.
