The movement of thousands of donated gifts and goodies in Hawke s Bay has begun with groups now packing, wrapping and distributing to needy homes with Christmas Day just over a week away.
Among the efforts was the third Operation Blue Santa, co-ordinated by a combined churches project in Napier and Hastings with police joining in on Wednesday as hundreds of Christmas packs began being distributed.

Ministry of Education staff in Napier know all about the needs of children, as highlighted by their contribution to the Hawke s Bay Christmas Cheer Appeal.
Toys dominated the donations, including a soft-toy tiger, which seemed to have already developed an affinity among some of the staff as it finally departed the regional offices in Ahuriri yesterday.

Cash donations for the Hawke s Bay Christmas Cheer Appeal, supported Hawke s Bay Today and NZME, are heading towards $3000 with a group of golfers getting into the swing this week.
Maraenui Golf Club s Wednesday Ladies gave $300 after a Christmas lunch, on Wednesday, and instead of giving gifts to each other decided to continue with a trend they have now set for their group over the past three years.
It is among $2555 in donations being publicly acknowledged today, as presents and other offerings amass around the Christmas trees of Hawke s Bay Today offices in Napier and Hastings, the Napier City Council s CBD service centre and other sites.
