Over £300,000 invested in community projects by Stockport Local Fund this year
Stockport Council has awarded a total of £307,000 since the start of the year to 68 projects, through the Stockport Local Fund.
We’ve received applications for funding for a wide range of ideas, including those responding to the impact of COVID-19 and others offering wider long-reaching support for the most vulnerable in our borough.
We have funded projects that are tackling digital exclusion, offering befriending, providing coaching for the unemployed and addressing mental health. We are supporting projects for victims of domestic abuse, refugees, bereaved families, people with special educational needs or disabilities and young people at risk of being drawn into crime and violence. The empty unit at Stockport’s Merseyway shopping centre can now be used more ‘flexibly’ - including as a museum, library or exhibition space - following the decision.

Council reveals further plans to issue vouchers for pupils who receive free school meals
The vouchers will be issued via email, or via post, if residents do not have an email address
Stockport Council has announced it will once again be issuing vouchers to families eligible for benefit related free school meals who attend schools in the borough.
Eligible families do not need to apply as the Council is working with Stockport schools and colleges to identify the vulnerable families in need of support and will issue vouchers directly.

Brinnington set to be put on the map ahead of Christmas
New map for Brinnington to support residents and visitors.
Brinnington residents will soon see a new resource in the community with a new map – one of three set to be delivered in coming months – to be put on display as part of the Local Pilot initiative.
The map highlights local landmarks to help guide residents and visitors alike on what they can see and do in the community, including Reddish Vale, which has some great options for rest and relaxation.
