Main Street update: Snow, rain slow progress | News, Sports, Jobs

aflynn@lakeplacidnews.com Signs at the municipal parking lot on Main Street welcome people to Lake Placid and warn them about construction. (News photo Andy Flynn) LAKE PLACID Weather has hampered efforts to upgrade Main Street over the past week, but work is continuing as planned for the most part. Construction crews managed to replace a fire hydrant at Mirror Lake Drive near intersection of Saranac Avenue Wednesday, April 21 before shutting down operations due to snow, according to Haley Breen, community development director for the town of North Elba and village of Lake Placid. That meant work on the stormwater management system at One Main Park was put on hold. More snow was expected for the following day. Weather-permitting, work was to continue on the One Main Park project and the installation of a new water main.

Work continues on Main Street in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — Main Street will continue to be open to one-way traffic only this week as construction crews continue installing a new water line. This construction work is part of a broader Main Street streetscape and improvement project. Main Street is expected to be under construction on and off for the next two-and-a-half years, and detours will remain in place this year until the end of June, according to the village. This week, construction crews will work on installing between 100 and 200 feet of new water lines, starting on the north end of the street near the intersection of Main Street and Saranac Avenue. On Monday, crews were working near Ruthie’s Run.
