One Author, One Kirkwood with Brendan Slocumb This year’s annual One Author One Kirkwood author is Brendan Slocumb! Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, he started playing the violin at the age of nine and majored in music at the University of North Carolina. In addition to performing in orchestras, he also works as a teacher in kindergarten, elementary and junior high and high school music education. Triathlete In Training To Swim English Channel

Jonathan Whiting lost his wife, Lori, to a rare form of cancer called cholangiocarcinoma in October of 2016. She was 53 years old and the mother of two children. Whiting will swim the English Channel in July of next year to raise funds for cholangiocarcinoma cancer research. Jonathan Whiting has a personal vendetta against cholangiocarcinoma cancer. This obscure bile duct cancer, whose few symptoms mimic other illnesses, took the life of his wife, Lori, on Oct. 11, 2016. She was 53 years old.
