Some students spoke at the April 21 march, organized by One DeSoto after the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd. Those students reconvened on Zoom to continue the conversation about policing. They were joined by peers and DeSoto police officers. Together, they discussed their concerns and feelings about police interactions with people of color.

The march followed the decision by a Minnesota jury to convict then-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin of killing George Floyd. The march was organized by One DeSoto, a civic partnership between DeSoto’s public and private entities including the city, school district, DeSoto’s faith community and police and fire.
