bridge, police calling a major incident they are now treating as a possible terror incident. they don t have the specific detail just yet, but they say they are responding as if it is terror related. i want to go live to the scene. owen, describe for me what you are seeing now and what happened. i ve left the area. emergency services need to do their jobs unencumbered. i was on my way to work and i was about to try to cross london bridge, and so this was just after the incident had unfolded and the whole area was suddenly all being diverted. the area, i went into a police cordon. people were running from the
bridge along from london bridge, and the area had ambulances and police cars coming from a different direction to the scene. even now, i m quite far away now. i m over a mile away from the area. you can still just see emergency services driving towards the incident itself. obviously still in need of emergency resources heading in that direction. and owen, real quickly, how big of an area is cordoned off? do you know? it was very sizable because i cycled i tried to cycle to a different area and all traffic on the major roads averted. so the area around london bridge is all cordoned off and the area was being evacuated so people were running in a different direction to leave the
media, a lot from journalists, didn t describe a calm situation in the immediate aftermath of this incident. they talked about people being rushed off the bridge, running out of pubs. i think police have effectively locked down the area and they re trying to get to the cause of the threat, and there is an ongoing threat. otherwise they would be tweeting that we re in control of the situation and things need to cam down. they re very concerned, the police, about how this is portrayed in the media in the uk but also in the wilder world. they don t want these images going around the world because it obviously puts people off from coming to london. but they re aware of it and they feel for the safety of the people of london this is a price they re willing to pay. clearly an ongoing threat they re concerned about. max foster, please stand by. i want to brink in paul crookshank. paul, an ongoing incident. it is not over. what stands out to you? the home secretary describing it as an ongo
detained? we were told from london police that there was somebody in custody or detained. no, but what i assume is, just like previous incidents, they are on top of things and from what we understand is there was some sort of commotion, some sort of fight happening further up the bridge, which we now heard was somebody with a knife, basically, attacking people, and that police shot the attacker. but, again, this is all speculation. this is what we know from social media. nobody in here actually was out there to see it. noah, we talked about the incident that happened in 2017. people in the uk are no stranger to different types of attacks, terror attacks. we don t know what this is just yet, ifs there any kind of terror nexus, but i imagine you re a little on guard, in a police with a lot of tourists. you mentioned being at this cafe
not really because we ve seen, you know, in london itself, we ve seen terrorist attacks with people ramming a car into a crowd outside of north london mosque. we ve seen stabbings. we ve seen vehicle attacks. we ve seen, you know, bombings in manchester. so the type of weapons, you know, it doesn t necessarily mean anything. peter bergen, please stand by. we have to huskisqueeze in a qu break. we ll find out what exactly is taking place on london bridge where there is a high security presence. london ambulance calling it a major incident. multiple people injured after a stabbing and one person currently in custody according to local police. we ll take a break and bring you the latest information as soon as we come back.
