they re so happy to see the pope today. it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. the pope is really focused on reaching out to children. are you excited to see him? yeah, i m really excited. are you on twitter? this pope seems to be into taking selfies. do you do that with your friends? sometimes but i don t have any of the social media. oh, yeah? sir, can i ask you, there s been a little bit of discussion. the eagles had been off to a little bit of a rough start here. you think the pope is going to help out? i think the pope is going to help our team out. he s going to inspire the guys to fight on and take down the new york jets this week and go on to win many games coming forward. one thing we ve heard a lot from people as we ve been talking to the crowd is the idea this pope is pretty inclusive in reaching out to communities that have felt marginalized. what es your take on how he s been speaking to marginalized communities since he s been here in the united states? h
let s go straight to miguel marquez, in the middle of it all, thick of it all. miguel, they could not be more excited next to you. this is absolutely credible. this crowd erupted like i ve never seen, and look, he s playing with the crowd. there s the baby we were talking about, the woman we were just speaking to tried to push to the very front and hand her baby over to the pope. he came around the corner. something caught his eye and really cracked him up and he stopped there for a bit, then a baby came out. just amazing. how was that? that was incredible. that s a once in a lifetime opportunity. you were pretty excited, too. yes, i was! i never have seen a pope before. that was actually pretty thrilling to see one in person. this is sort of like a whole other worldly experience, yes? yes, definitely. why do you love this pope so much, why come up from kentucky? he s one of the most influential people in the world. he s the leader of our religion. he represents us. a
disenfranchised and lost their way. and when we ve received and accepted the invitation, it was to speak just to that. we have inmates that are in our system charged with various crimes. but they have demonstrated through their ability to be receptive to programming services from a variety of providers and services we provide at the prisons that there is change in the heart. this is not just putting someone away in a cell, but really giving them access to programs and services so we took a look at the inmates that, first of all, are receptive to those services that are actively involved in religious programming. and this is for a variety of faiths. and those inmates were selected for this once in a lifetime opportunity. so let me ask you a question that s probably on the minds of some of our viewers. yeah. some of these inmates are in prison for absolutely horrific crimes.
what many of them got to see is him arriving here in the little fiat, and pope francis turned, and they were all waving, and this is a little pope emoji, and he turned around and gave them a big smile, and he waved and then he went to the basilica, and now they were all waiting for him to come out from the same entrance, and then luckily for the other ones waiting on the other side of the basilica, he chose another exit. but they stood here way longer, and way after, long after the pope left, for the seminary hoping that they would catch another glimpse of him, and now they were chanting, and calling out pope francis, pope francis but they had figured out that he had left, but for many, they realize it is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the last pope to visit philadelphia and the basilica is pope john paul, and they know that the
