Who was Daniel Pearl?
Pearl, 38, was investigating Islamist militants in Karachi after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States when he was kidnapped. Pearl was based in Mumbai at the time as the South Asia Bureau Chief of the Journal. He was kidnapped in Karachi on January 23 and killed by his captors on February 1.
