LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Some people can walk right past someone and that person wouldn’t know about their personal struggle. That’s the case for one Western Technical College student. But she’s not alone thanks to man’s best friend.
“I let that hold me back for so long,” Western Technical College student Laura Bialecki said.
Sometimes a person’s kryptonite lies beneath their surface.
“Somebody with a mental illness doesn’t look like somebody that might have a disability,” Bialecki said.
Mannequin simulator donated by Gundersen Health System to Onalaska Care Center

Gundersen donated a mannequin simulator to the Onalaska Care Center.
The mannequin will be used for training to make sure that skills are sharp when they are needed.
“What is really important in any health care industry is to continue to continuously education and make sure that nurses and CNAs and those that are caring for people, in our case residents, that they are well prepared,” said Onalaska Care Center director of nursing Jeremiah Galvan.
The life size simulator was one of 12 for Gundersen Health System.

Nearly all residents at the Onalaska Care Center got the vaccine Wednesday.
And a little more than half of the staff received the vaccine as well.
After more than nine months of safety measures, staff say this is a step back toward normal.
“This vaccination is the first step in returning to the normal that we all want to have and that we all need to have,” said Onalaska Care Center administrator Marissa Janke.

St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona actually got the vaccine last Thursday.
Staff and residents at Bethany St. Joe’s in La Crosse received their shots yesterday.
Folks at Hillview Health Care Center were vaccinated on Tuesday.
“I mean we had a line out the door this morning of staff that aren’t even working today that were here to get it,” Hillview Health Care Center licensed practicing nurse Dana Gibbons said.
Vaccinations at Hillview began at around 9 a.m.
