thousands gathered demanding a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages held by hamas since the october 7th attacks. our correspondent hugo bachega is injerusalem and gave us this update. this is the deadliest incident involving the israeli military since january and one of the deadliest in this war. so, the military gave some details about what happened earlier today. it said these soldiers were members of an engineering unit and their armoured vehicle was hit by a large explosion. and this explosion then triggered the detonation of explosive material, engineering material in the car. so, this is under investigation. apparently, this was in breach of the standard practice, and an investigation continues. but daniel hagari, a military spokesman, said that this initial explosion was most likely caused by an explosive device in the area or by an anti tank missile. and we know that earlier today, the armed wing of hamas claim to have carried out an attack on an israe
war specifically? well, i think the impact-s in the war in ukraine is actually minimal at this point. it s you know, in war, we say everything is simple. but even the simple is very difficult. putin has been trying to establish a northern offensive against kyiv to separate kyiv and lviv from the very beginning. it doesn t work out in the first days of smashing down on kyiv. and it hasn t worked out yet because he can t generate the extra forces. he can t quite hold on to what he s got in ukraine. and, so, where they are now is the russians have thinned out their forces in the south. they anticipated that kyiv s counteroffensive could be blunted by the obstacle belts there and by some combination of air power, and helicopters an the remaining forces. the 58th combined army commander probably complained about this so they fired him. this is the russian way. and they concentrated forces in the north and they re attempting
most critical and important cities in the country. the air raid sirens have been going off. we ve been hearing some loud thuds in the distance. i just heard another one. it is very hard to tell what that is right now. but there have certainly been several, i would say, around five of them. and then just moments ago we saw something on fire streaking across the sky. it did look like a drone that had been shot down. all of this needs to be verified. i continued to hear some thuds in the distance. we ve also seen spotlights in the sky. i can see one right now. those spotlights are often used to try to spot drones as the ukrainians try to shoot them down. now, ukraine has a very complex system of air defenses. but, at the same time, you often have forces on the ground who try to shoot them out of the sky with their guns. and in the past week since i ve been in ukraine, we have seen attacks not just on odesa but on kyiv and other cities.
