Festival presenters select LGBTQ films for every taste from Frameline 45 lineup

The package includes drive-in showings, streaming across the country, indoor screenings and even outdoor movie nights at Oracle Park. Before the program was put together, organizers worried that the pandemic would make it difficult to come up with a strong lineup. But the opposite happened: There weren’t enough slots for all the excellent work, including big productions, romances and period dramas. “The hard part was we didn’t have enough slots for all the work and all the creative energy that people were able to muster while being locked down,” said Allegra Madsen, Frameline’s director of programming.

In a collaboration between Frameline, host of the annual LGBTQ International Film Festival, the San Francisco Giants and SF Pride, the first-ever Pride Movie Nights will welcome film fans to an outdoor screening (June 11) of the new film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda s Tony-winning musical In the Heights, plus live acts and an additional June 12 film to be revealed. Each night starts at 6:30pm with in-person and virtual appearances, plus food and drinks available for purchase. Feature films screen at 8pm. John M. Chu s adaptation of the vibrant musical, filmed on location in Washington Heights, is already getting rave reviews. Through a dazzling series of musical numbers, it tells the story of Usnavi (Anthony Ramos) and he and his friends and family as they fight for their hopes while under threat from deportation. The film includes numerous dance scenes set in New York City streets, and even in a swimming pool.

 will present Pride Movie Nights at Oracle Park on Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12, 2021. A natural extension of Frameline and SF Pride s decades-long, mutually advantageous relationship, this socially distanced and ticketed event (subject to state-mandated capacity limits) is further strengthened by a partnership with Giants Enterprises and support from the City and County of San Francisco. A soon-to-be-announced second feature film will take place on Saturday, June 12. “I can’t think of a better way to kick-off Frameline45 than with an in-person screening of Jon M.
