joaquin el chapo gman. let s get right to it with nbc s mark potter, who s been following this story closely and has some pretty amazing information. well, what we re hearing as our source information continues to come in is that u.s. authorities believe and mexican authorities that they came very, very close to finding el chapo just recently. last week. and they had him on a ranch near cosala, which is in the mexican mountains, the western mountains. they went in with choppers. they took fire from his security forces. they had to put the choppers down. they went up on foot. he got away with his security forces, they believe, on atvs. they now believe that he s injured, that he was either shot in the leg or that he fell and broke his leg in a ravine. they don t know for sure. they think he has injuries to his face, something with his nose. they had him down, i believe, to first a 16-mile, then a 2-mile radius area that they were pinching in on, but somehow, they believe
actually operate this is area. and i know that they have indicated that when all of this is over, they want to review all their procedures to determine whether unmanned campsites like this, campsites that don t have somebody up and awake 24 hours a day are something that they are going to try to change. as i indicated, the remoteness, the remote nature of this area attracts a lot of people to begin with. well, our casey wyann is live at the command cente in arkansas. what is going on there, casey? reporter: well, behind me we have 100 folks gathering to be part of the search and rescue and recovery effort that s been going on since friday. we have seen rescuers out there in kayaks, on atvs,son horseback, helicopters, but now it is more on recovery. they are sending out canine teams to try to sniff whatever
