but it s not [laughter] hurricane donald trump is hurricane trump is still on track to make landfall, to still be the republican presidential nominee. there were a lot of lies tonight, a lot of extreme positions. lies, particularly, on abortion. but there were some nuggets of truth. the opening that you just played of the majority of the people acknowledging that mike pence did the right thing on january, six that he did not have the authority to overturn the election is very important for gop primary voters to hear. that the other thing that i heard in terms of it s not a very long list in terms of their nuggets of truth but climate change is real. we heard that was a joe biden tweet. climate change is real, by the way. molly jong-fast you are in touch with so many democrats, so many people of all parties. what do democrats do with that debate tonight? they are overjoyed.
whatever the opposite of a favor is just by being bad at talking? [laughter] there was that story in the washington post, i think, about awkward americans relating to him because he is awkward. so, maybe he appeal to that caucus, perhaps. but i don t think he did himself any favors tonight because he was not memorable. i do think mike pence had a good night, his position on abortion is out of whack with the whole country, but for the electorate and evangelical voters, that s what they want to. here he also showed he had some life in him too. you often talk about nikki haley. she showed herself to be probably the best general election candidate. probably can t get through the primary at this point but that was strong too. and it was a good night for vivek because everybody focused on him. so, those who might. three jen psaki, thank you very much for your time tonight. it s invaluable to have you here. can we talk about tim scott for a second? yeah. i will start. so, i fe
risks that none of the others would take, whether it was on the economy, whether it was on climate change. and even on abortion, she understood and read the room. but more importantly, has read the country s position on this issue in a way that allowed her to well, while some might not have appreciated it as well as others, called out a better, wider lane for herself, which will be interesting to see if she can capitalize on between now in the next debate. but, for me, tonight, she stepped up in a way that the others did not. and they actually look smaller in her presence, in my view, particularly when you look at her exchange with vivek and how she kind of, with poise, showed the fellas how to do this. michael, given that take, and the way that you are explaining what was impressive to you about ms. haley tonight, let me ask what you thought about it mike pence, because
of them. that probably helped her a little bit. but i thought as well the person with the best night was joe biden. he looked at those eight people, who could imagine none of them being president, and he could imagine out of the making credible case against joe biden said he just heard more and more maga extremism from if there s any carry that republican party without trump would not be trumpy, it was about as trumpy as you can get. they all decided, who can be most extreme on abortion, one after the other? who can be most extreme on all kinds of other issues? and i think they all kind of generally hurt themselves. what is interesting about primary debates is you can kind of get a sense of these candidates trying out attacks. so i, want to play something that governor ron desantis said about president biden. let s play that and we will talk about it on the other side. our country is in decline. this decline is not inevitable. it is a choice. we need to send joe biden back to his
climate in about 2002. so, it has been and i don t know if trump just blew them away with all of his lack of morals or they forgot about it. but this is a real rupture inside the evangelical vote. they care a whole out about the plan. and this young man asked the question in good faith. and none of them swung at it. i am as fixated as you are, though, on the structural things, on climate, and abortion, and on trump and the big lie. i mean, in pennsylvania, in michigan, where they have had to vote on people like doug mastriano and people who were big lie advocates, they have been giant electoral losers. so, they did themselves no electoral favors tonight by not distancing themselves from any of those big things that put off voters, their own voters abortion, climate, and the big lie. they re losers. i want to ask control room, live on the air, which i am not supposed to do, if you guys could bring up number 16 and number 18. i would like to talk a little bit about nikki haley.
