North Carolina Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen expects more than 10,000 new daily COVID-19 infections in the state by January. She said she doesn't know how that will impact hospitalizations because the variant is believed to be less severe than the delta variant, which plagued the health care system this summer.
