Deciding on a new laptop or computer can be a monumental task. There are many places to start your search, but some good old-fashioned brand research can go a long way. HP started its journey as Hewlett Packard more than 80 years ago, so it’s probably learned a thing or two along the way. Whether you’re thinking about a laptop or desktop, this is the place to be. Here are all of the best HP computers to buy.
HP branding explained
The Spectre brand represents HP’s high-end performance line of mainstream laptops. The Envy family is a step-down in both laptops and desktops, though it seems to get closer to the Spectre each year. From there you move into the Pavilion line for HP’s everyday computing. It is followed by the unbranded HP Laptop series, Stream devices for younger users, and Chromebooks.

When it comes to tower PCs, you have two camps: those who insist on the superiority of building your own and those who want something out of the box that works.
The new HP Omen 30L falls into the latter category, but HP, like other PC makers, borrows from the DIY crowd with success. Yes, it s a pre-made system, but its new one-button toolless entry, pre-wiring for expansion, and multiple RGB lighting zones make it feel a bit more custom.
I use the Omen Obelisk myself, so stepping up to the Omen 30L with new RTX 3080 graphics and 10th Gen Core i9 has me a bit jealous. And if you don t like Intel, don t worry, as you can get a system with AMD instead.
All Specs
HP’s Omen 30L is its largest and most powerful gaming tower desktop. Esports configurations start as low as $949.99 at Best Buy, while our $3,109 review model from HP’s site packs a rampaging Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 video card for 4K adventures in Cyberpunk 2077. It also has overclocking features thanks to its unlocked Intel Core i9-10900K CPU. Modern looks, customizable RGB lighting, and name-brand components from Cooler Master, Western Digital, and HyperX make the Omen 30L a compelling alternative to the Alienware Aurora R11. The Corsair Vengeance i7200 remains our top pick among high-end mainstream gaming towers for its even cleaner looks and quieter operation, but the Omen 30L is a fine alternative. In fact, given the late-2020 difficulties of finding high-end towers in stock (not to mention, the video cards that power them), the better of the two might just be the one that you can get your hands on first.
