Despite the dark shadow of the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine, the birthplace of Jesus continues to attract millions of tourists who flock to the holy city of Bethlehem every Christmas.
But the historical significance of the Palestinian city goes beyond its renowned Church of Nativity, built above the grotto where Jesus is believed to have been born, and Palestinians believe visiting Bethlehem should not be confined to the festive season.
Indeed the reasons to visit this magnificent city, regarded as the Arab Capital of Culture for 2020 under the UNESCO Cultural Capitals Program, are too numerous to count.

Sun, 20 Dec 2020 00:01 UTC Hundreds of illegal Israeli colonialist settlers gathered, Thursday, near Mar Saba (St. Saba) Christian Monastery, east of the Palestinian city of Bethlehem, south of occupied Jerusalem, and attempted to disrupt prayers.
Hundreds of colonists descended to the ancient holy site, the older Christian Monastery in occupied Palestine, during the celebration of the feast of St. Saba, eyewitnesses said.
They added that the Israeli assailants then attempted to intimidate the monks who gathered there to pray, in a deliberate attempt to stop the prayers.
Palestinian Christian groups denounced the serious violation, especially since such violations continue to be ignored by countries around the world, while the so-called Christian-Zionist groups that provide cover for Israel s constant violations, crimes, and intimidation targeting the Palestinians, both Muslims and Christians, and their holy sites, in occupied Palestine.
