plus, a news4 exclusive. we ll hear from a father rescued from a vicious pit bull attack in arlington. and how police are tracking your moves using your cell phone. good evening, everyone. tonight we begin with a weather alert. storm in our area once again. chuck bell has the details. thanks, jim. another pretty busy day in the weather department with thunderstorms this afternoon. another round possible late this evening. had a severe thunderstorm in the shenandoah valley and the mountains of west virginia as recently as 25, 30 minutes ago. fortunately the storm is losing its punch as it comes east of the blue ridge. still some thunder and lightning moving in. at the pace they re going, they could be administration it just to the south of middleburg, to the north of marshall over by the next 30 to 40 minutes. that would put it potentially with thunder and line into the downtown metro area. not long after midnight, 1:00 in the morning. we ll have a more complete check of t
springsteen, a perfect concert until someone pulled the plug. good morning, everybody. i m john muller. i m sunny hoss tin. dangerous heat back for millions of americans. it s only part of severe weather. killing two men in texas who ran for cover during a soccer match. the swift thunderstorm surprised the players. they took refuge under a tree which was a fatal mistake. i souheard what sounded like bomb go off. i saw lightning hit the tree and burst to the ground. reporter: it struck three people. one man died instantly, another man died at the hospital and one died instantly. racing water stunned drivers in washington state and made roads impassable in arizona. drivers caught in the middle of fast-moving floods. parts of connecticut saw four inches of rain overnight. today sizzling heat goes eastward. heat advisories for 13 states with near triple digits returning to chicago and st. louis. heat wave making drought conditions worse. this year already rivalrying
the intense heat. we made 96 in washington and we re down to 92 and rain-cooled 70s out to the west and here s where we could see the showers and thunderstorms moving into parts of lowdown county, and they ll be on the lookout there and that storm is not severe and capable of heavy rain and also capable of heavy showers and plenty of lightning, on the calvert county and an arundel county line. i ll be back in a few more minutes with another update on the forecast. those storms have caused a number of power outages. to other news tonight, the search is on for a maryland man accused of shooting the mother of his children right in the middle of a nail salon. that man s name is tuan pham. a judge ordered him to stay away from her. instead he arrived at her workplace and opened fire. we have more from ellicott city. reporter: he s accused of shooting his estranged girlfriend at her workplace, the hair and nail care spa as well as her friend, a 40-year-old man from florida wh
the jury finding him not guilty on one of six charges he faced and dead locked on the other five. judge katherine eagles has declared a mistrial and for now edwards is free again. thank goodness we live in a country that has the kind of system we have. i think those jurors were an exemplar for what juries are supposed to do. reporter: repeating the refrain from the early days of the case edwards also blamed only himself. while i do not believe i did anything illegal, or ever thought i was doing anything illegal, i did an awful, awful lot that was wrong. there is no one else responsible for my sins. reporter: the jury decision came after a bizarre twist earlier in the day after telling the judge they had reached a verdict the jury of eight men and four women surprised the courtroom with the announcement they only had a unanimous decision on only one count. edwards lawyers immediately asked for a mistrial citing the jury s inability to reach a unanimous verdict on the
