The wife, elder son and neighbour of newly elected mayor of Faridpur s Nagarkanda municipality were killed and the mayor seriously injured after a bus crashed head on into the microbus carrying them in Faridpur tonight.
The deceased were identified as Shanchita Sarkar (45), wife of mayor Nimay Sarkar, their son Gourab Sarkar (25), and their neighbour Md Kamal Hosen (40), reports our Faridpur correspondent quoting police.
Omar Faruq, officer in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station said a Dhaka-bound bus of GS Paribahan collided with the microbus on Dhaka-Khunla Highway in Kailar intersection area around 9:15pm, leaving Shanchita, Gourab and Kamal dead on the spot and Nimay critically injured.

Three people, including the wife and son of a newly-elected municipality mayor, were killed as a microbus and a bus collided head-on on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Faridpur s Nagarkanda upazila last night.
Nimay Sarkar, who was elected mayor of the Nagarkanda municipality as an Awami League candidate in the February 14 polls, was also critically injured.
Omar Faruq, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said the accident happened in Kailar Mour area around 9:15pm.
He said the bus was heading towards Dhaka and the victims were travelling in the microbus going in the opposite direction.

Four people, including three women, were killed and 24 more injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Khulna highway at Bagail in Faridpur s Bhanga upazila yesterday.
The accident happened around 12:00 noon, said police, quoting locals.
The dead are Rashid Mollah, 58, of Chuadanga s Jibonnagar upazila, and Jahanara Begum, 48, of Faridpur s Nagarkanda upazila, said police.
Mohammad Omar Faruq, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said rest of the two could not be identified immediately.
According to the police official, a Barishal-bound bus of Duranta Paribahan hit a roadside island in the area as its driver lost control of the vehicle.
