Olympics: Australia sends Brisbane 2032 bid guarantees to IOC By Syndicated Content Apr 26, 2021 10:30 PM MELBOURNE (Reuters) – Australia has sent the International Olympic Committee (IOC) funding guarantees for Brisbane’s 2032 Games bid following confirmation of federal government support, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Tuesday. Palaszczuk said the government had confirmed it would fund the Games’ infrastructure with Queensland state just over an hour before an IOC deadline on Monday. “I thank the Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) for getting me such a prompt response,” she told reporters. “He met the deadline, that’s the main thing.” Queensland state capital Brisbane was named preferred bidder for the 2032 Games in February and could be confirmed as host as early as July.

Olympic funding win could transform Sunshine Coast

This week Queensland s bid to host the Olympics took a giant leap forward with an offer from the Federal Government to fund half of the costs of major infrastructure needed for the mega event. The Sunshine Coast is expected to play a vital role if Brisbane is successful in its bid, with the region tipped to host several events. The funding promise could help secure several long-awaited projects for the Sunshine Coast including a faster rail link between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, upgrades to the Kawana stadium and a convention and performing arts centre at Maroochydore CBD.

Women-friendly measures to be rolled out beyond the budget

Women-friendly measures to be rolled out beyond the budget Save Share Next month’s federal budget will be only a downpayment on measures tailored to benefit female voters, with the government planning a more extensive policy rollout in the lead-up to the next federal election. While the budget, for example, is expected to contain changes to superannuation to help women bolster their retirement savings, more substantial measures such as a mechanism to enable catch-up contributions are likely to come later. “The budget has to achieve some steps on gender equality but it won’t be the last word,” said a source.
