FORT WAYNE â A LaOtto man who allegedly led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a shootout with officers in Kendallville early Thursday morning has been released from medical care and is being detained by police on an oustanding Noble County warrant.
Justin R. Weikel, 40, has not yet been charged with any charges from the early Thursday incident after police said Weikel initiatied a high-speed chase starting in Fort Wayne that traveled north to Kendallville.
The pursuit ended in Kendallville, where Indiana State Police said they exchanged gunfire with Weikel before taking him into custody.
On Sunday, Indiana State Police issued an update stating that Weikel has been released from medical care at a Fort Wayne-area hospital and is now being detained on an Noble County warrant for pending charges of possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a syringe.

(Kendallville, IN)- Indiana State Police detectives are conducting an investigation of an overnight police action shooting in Kendallville. The incident began as a police vehicle pursuit in Fort Wayne, running through several counties, where multiple police agencies became involved. The pursuit ended with a traffic stop in Kendallville that resulted in an exchange of gunfire initiated by the driver.
The incident began shortly after 11:30pm last night, when officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department attempted to stop a Buick passenger car for a reckless driving violation near Harris Road and Olympia Avenue on the northwest side of Fort Wayne. The suspect driver initially stopped for the officer, but then sped off from the traffic stop as the officer was walking up to the car, which then initiated a vehicle pursuit.
