The increased volume and speed of traffic in the parish has long caused concern. There have been a series of near misses outside Olveston Primary School and in 2013 a cyclist was killed during a race after being hit by a car. Olveston SpeedWatch, a partnership between volunteers from the local community, the police, and other local authorities was set up in response to the growing concerns around speeding. Until recently the scheme has lacked funding but this year, thanks to the generosity of a local businessman who wishes to remain anonymous, that has all changed. Olveston Parish Council received a gift of £2,500 enabling it to purchase its own VAS to go along with one it shares with Oldbury on Severn parish.
