An Ekiti businessman kidnapped on Christmas day in Oye Local Government Area of the state has been rescued by Operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun corps in Kwara state. Ripples Nigeria had reported how Mr Ajayi was kidnapped alongside his cousin, Oluwaseun Fatile on Friday but Amotekun corps rescued Fatile from the gunmen same day. Mr Ajayi was said to have been rescued in a forest in Isapa community of Kwara state at about 3pm on Monday. Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Monday, the Amotekun Corps commander, Brigadier General Joe Komolafe (rtd) said the victim was rescued from the kidnappers after serious hot chase.

Views: 724 Gunmen had free rein in Jigawa State on Christmas Day as they killed two police officers, abducted a nursing mother and abandoned her one-month old baby in a separate incident. In Ekiti State, gunmen also struck on Christmas Day at about 6pm, abducting travellers along Isan-Iludun road. The combined efforts of the police, Amotekun corps, and local hunters led to the rescue of one of the victims. The two police officers were killed during a gun duel with suspected kidnappers at Jargo Fulani settlement of Garki LGA Local Government Area of Jigawa State. According to Police Public Relations Officer for the state, SP Abdul Jinjiri, the slain officers stormed the hideout of the kidnappers terrorising residents of the area based on earlier intelligence.

Ekiti businessman will be freed, we have intelligence - Police commissioner reassures family

The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Mr Babatunde Mobayo, has assured that the police will work with other security agencies in the state to secure the release of a businessman, Mr. Happiness Ajayi Okunola, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen. Okunola was abducted at about 6pm alongside one Oluwaseun Fatile between Isan-Iludun road on Christmas day while travelling on that route. With the intervention of the Police, Amotekun corps and some hunters, Fatile was rescued after the captors were given a hot chase into the bush. The criminals, however, succeeded in taking Okunola away into captivity. Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, the police boss, who spoke through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the police are working hard to ensure Okunola is released safe and sound.
