The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum, has emphasised the need for the harmonisation of standards among member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
This, she said would help strengthen industrialisation process and enhance quality culture as well as improve intra-regional competitiveness in trade.
Katagum, while declaring open the ECOWAS Ministers of Trade and Industry meeting, which was held virtually in Abuja, said in order to ensure that opportunities from both regional and continental free trade initiatives are realised, necessary structures and instruments are particularly crucial to promoting trade and industry.

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum, has called for accessible financing for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at single-digit interest rate.
The minister specifically tasked the financial sector to continue to support the federal government’s initiatives to boost affordable financing to small businesses by granting cheap credit to the MSMEs sector at single digit.
She made the call in her remarks at the virtual Ecobank MSME and Financial Inclusion Summit themed: “Unlocking Credit Growth in a Changing MSME Lending Landscape”.
Katagum, said as partners in progress, “I charge Ecobank Plc and the financial sector as a whole, to continue to provide the much-needed support for federal government initiatives by facilitating and granting accessible financing for the MSME sub-sector, at single digit. I repeat at single digit.”

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum, has reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government towards sustainable development of Nigerian entrepreneurs.
Katagum, during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigeria Entrepreneurs Forum (NEF) and the Organisation of Women in International Trade (OWIT) Nigeria, led by the President Nigeria Entrepreneurs Forum (NEF), Dr. Sidney Inegbedion, in Abuja, noted that the present administration had put in place various programmes, including Export Expansion Grant EEG, MSMEs Survival Fund and the National Diaspora Policy as part of efforts aimed at encouraging the growth of small scale businesses in the country.
