Philadelphia's 2024 Broad Street Run is back on Sunday, May 5. The 45th annual event which is the nation's largest 10-mile road race will be at full capacity with 40,000 runners registered to participate. This guide provides course information, road closures, SEPTA detours, how spectators can watch and post-race activities.
The 2023 Broad Street Run takes place Sunday, April 30 at 8 a.m. The race begins in North Philly near the Central High School Field Grounds and finishes near Lincoln Financial Field in the Sports Complex. There will be various road closures and SEPTA detours in effect. Spectators are permitted for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic and there will be an afterparty at Xfinity Live! NBC10 is broadcasting the race.
Philadephia police charged Derrick Jones, 22, with murder for allegedly shooting to death Zamir Syrus, Justin Robert Smith and Tyheim Tucker. Jones targeted Syrus while riding a SEPTA bus, killing him after he left the bus on June 28, 2022, police said. He allegedly killed Smith and Tucker in the same fashion on July 7. Crime has risen significantly on the public transit system.
The 42nd Blue Cross Broad Street Run happens Sunday, May 1, starting just before 8 a.m. More than 27,000 people are registered to run in the 10-mile race. Spectators should not go to watch the race in person, instead NBC10 will broadcast live livestream the event. Some Broad Street Run road closures begin at 2 a.m. Sunday and more roads along the route will be closed up until 7 a.m. Roads are expected to reopen at noon.
