ondon’s retail and gym bosses have called on the Government for urgent help as businesses face the prospect of long periods shuttered under Tier 4 restrictions.
The new strictest restrictions - which require all non-essential retail and indoor gyms to close - were implemented in London and the South East at the busiest time of the year for retail, and ahead of gyms’ traditional January boom in sign-ups.
New West End Company boss Jace Tyrell on Monday called for a freeze on all business taxes in Tier 4, warning that London’s shopping centre will see a £2 billion drop in sales this Christmas, and is “highly likely” to see an 80% year-on-year drop in sales by March.
