This is my first appearance here, to talk about the imperative of changing the nations gun laws, recognizing that this number, 100 americans killed by guns every single day, is not inevitable. Almost every single one of these murders and suicides and accidental shootings is preventable. Little girls, the 8 little boys, and the 6 dedicated women who died at Sandy Hook Elementary School one week ago. Today, here in newtown, at 9 30 in the morning, bells rang out for each of the people whose lives were lost, mothers and daughters, sons and nieces and nephews. We remember them all. [ bell tolling ] for the next hour, well hear from family members because they want a voice, and we want to give to them. A voice to tell us about their children, how special they were, the lives they lived. We dont want to just focus on how they die. We want to focus on how they lived and the lives they touched and they have touched so many lives.
