Two minutes silence has been observed around the country for Armistice Day. It marked the moment in 1918 when the fighting came to an end in the first world war. There were ceremonies at the National Memorial arboretum in staffordshire, and at the cenotaph on whitehall in london, from where our correspondent Adina Campbell reports. As the crowds gathered into whitehall to the sound of the pipes, looming in front of them the stark cenotaph war memorial, a sobering reminder of the many lives lost in conflict. Big ben was also heard chiming, despite being silent for the last three months, due to repair work. Big ben chimes. Shortly after the two minutes silence, thousands of people watched on as pipes and drums from the london scottish regiment marched through whitehall in a captivating display. One another in the company of our children and close friends. Have that love and commitment given legal recognition that better reflects the life we value. We have shared much ivy life we value. We have shared much joy in supporting each other through the strains of life and loss. Confidence and belief in our own agency, against all odds we succeeded in a legal battle against the government. Then they did what we asked for a long. Not many people can say that. But we both know that with everything gained, some things risk being lost. Through this long journey and hard fought battle, my Mental Health has suffered, our ability to be civil to one another has been tested and crucially missed out on an important moment to state what we mean to each other, not just in the eyes of others.
