SSC Tuatara sets world’s fastest production car record – 455.3 km/h two-way average; 460.4 km/h Vmax!

Last year, SSC announced that its hypercar, the Tuatara, managed to set a new record for the world’s fastest production car. However, the company faced plenty of controversy after proudly making the declaration, with many claiming that the video evidence didn’t back up the data of the attempt.
This resulted in company CEO Jerod Shelby having to admit that the evidence was a little shaky, and that SSC would not submit the data to Guinness World Records. In a personal statement posted on YouTube, he vowed to re-run the attempt to make sure it is done “in a way that’s undeniable and irrefutable.”

America can rest easy. The SSC Tuatara is now officially the fastest production car in the world. It had an average two-way speed of 282.9 mph (455.3 kph) to eclipse the Koenigsegg Agera RS’ 277.87 mph record, which took place in 2017.
After botching its first and second runs, SSC made its third attempt on January 17 of this year at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. But this time, SSC sought the technical expertise of Racelogic USA to measure and validate the Tuatara’s high-speed runs.

Shelby Supercars has cemented its claim that the SSC Tuatara is the world's fastest car – but in a weirdly underwhelming fashion. Its new record of 282.9 mph (455.3 km/h) is nowhere near the previous claim, which was sensationally debunked last year.

With the Tuatara’s original top speed attempt tarnished by controversy, SSC North America had no other way but to redo the run. In an attempt to clear up any accusations about tampering with the video footage of the original run that took place last October, the hypercar marque now claims it has legitimately set a new top speed record during a second official run.
Rather than going back to the Nevada State Route 160 where the first attempt took place, SSC gained access to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds at Space Florida s Shuttle Landing Facility.
