Japan provides further support to improve food security in Zimbabwe Format The Government of Japan has contributed US$ 1.25 million through the World Food Programme (WFP) to support vulnerable, food insecure communities in Zimbabwe that have been severely impacted by climate shocks and COVID-19. To address the root causes of food insecurity and achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 - Zero Hunger - WFP recognises that it is important to forge such partnerships in order to undertake long term strategies to secure a brighter future for these communities. Japan’s contribution comes at a time when many in the country are struggling to feed themselves as a result of successive droughts and a dire economic situation which has been exacerbated by COVID-19.

Japan donates maize to improve food security in Zimbabwe Format 10 Mar 2021 HARARE – The Government of Japan has donated approximately 20,000 metric tonnes of maize to the Government of Zimbabwe’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy (FDMS) through the World Food Programme (WFP). This is meant to meet the essential food security needs of vulnerable households in Zimbabwe. A similar donation of 30,000 metric tonnes of maize was delivered by the Government of Japan and WFP to the Government of Zimbabwe in June 2020. In this valuable partnership between Japan and Zimbabwe, WFP played a fundamental role using its expertise in supply chain management to procure maize from South Africa and deliver it directly to the Government’s Grain Marketing Board silos in Harare and Bulawayo.
