A UNIVERSITY of Cambridge student from Manchester has been jailed for terrorism offences at Manchester Crown Court. Oliver Bel, of Cherry Tree Close, Wilmslow, was jailed today for two years after being found guilty of possession of documents likely to be useful to a person preparing, or committing, an act of terrorism. He first came to police attention in early 2019, while he was a student at Cambridge University. Complaints relating to Bel s online activity including social media posts expressing anti-Semitic and extreme right wing views were received by police. A search warrant was executed at Bel s address following a number of extreme right wing posts made by him appearing in a news article from Hope not Hate - an advocacy group campaigning against racism.

A man from Chadderton has been found guilty of possessing a bomb-making instruction manual that he purchased on Amazon.
Former Cambridge University student, Oliver Bel was convicted of collecting information useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
24 year-old Bel faces up to 15 years in prison for having the Anarchist Cookbook at his home in Salford in November 2019.
During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, jurors heard how Bel had been in contact with the banned neo-Nazi group National Action, and that Bel advocated the extermination of Jews in posts to the right-wing web forum Iron March.

Oliver Bel had been on trial at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square accused of having the Anarchist Cookbook at his home in Salford in November 2019. He admitted having it but claimed it was for academic interest. And today the jury took just over three hours to reject the 24-year-old s defence and all agreed he was guilty. Bel made no reaction as the verdict was read out. The court heard the offence now carries a maximum sentence of 15 years.
