SOUTHPORT – For the Southport City Dock, 2021 may finally be the year.
In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew thrashed the L-shaped dock that extends out into the Old Yacht Basin, warping its wood, dislodging its boards and making it unstable for visitors.
For more than four years, the dock and those who miss walking over its planks to get a view of the water have patiently waited for repairs to come – but all they’ve gotten is false starts.
Now, as the city looks to the new year, Mayor Joseph Hatem is confident 2021 will see the dock repaired to – at least some of – its former glory.
