Yellowstone s North Entrance being rebuilt to accommodate more traffic

BRETT FRENCH Work that began last fall to upgrade the North Entrance station and road to Yellowstone National Park at Gardiner will continue through this summer and is projected to be completed by fall. Until then, visitors and Gardiner business owners and residents may see some congestion on high traffic days in a year that park Superintendent Cam Sholly has predicted could be one of the busiest on record for Yellowstone. A busy summer could lead to backups regardless of the construction, said Terese Petcoff, executive director of the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce. The park is pretty good about getting visitors through the gates fast.

Major Road Construction in Yellowstone National Park Three major road construction projects will continue this spring in Yellowstone National Park, with one planned road closure lasting through the 2021 season, according to a National Park Service press release. If the weather cooperates, Yellowstone will open select roads and services for the season on April 16, but visitors should be prepared for delays in parts of the park that are undergoing road construction, and changes in traffic patterns. The construction project from Tower-Roosevelt to Canyon Junction is entering its second year, and will have that stretch of park road completely closed through the 2021 season, according to the press release.
