Among those serving was Eden (Edom) London, an enslaved man. At the start of the American Revolution, London was about 30 years old, according to Eric Schnitzer, a National Park Ranger at the Saratoga National Historic Park in Saratoga, New York. Prior to living in Winchendon, he escaped enslavement in about 1775 and joined the Continental Army for an eight-month term, which including fighting in the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.
