NORTH COUNTY
A 19-year-old woman suffered serious injuries early Wednesday in a crash on a rural road north of Escondido, authorities said.
The crash happened about 6:40 a.m. on Old Castle Road near Castle Crest Drive, in the Hidden Meadows area east of Interstate 15, California Highway Patrol Officer Juan Escobar said.
The driver was eastbound on Old Castle Road in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer when, for unknown reasons, she swerved and the SUV slammed into a power pole near Castle Crest Drive, Escobar said.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Palomar Hospital for treatment of major injuries, the officer said. No other injuries were reported.
LAND stabilisation works to stop cliff erosion on a housing site off Old Castle Road, Weymouth have been approved by Dorset Council. The authority say the works may be harmful to nature and a Site of Special Scientific Interest but are essential and need to go ahead to avoid cutting off around 90 homes and the Castle Cove Sailing Club. The council will pay for part of the project which is expected to be cheaper than diverting the road, its other option. The works will include adding gabions and stone boulders from the beachfront up the slope with stone filled drains and piling to support the three homes which already have planning permission.
More social homes needed for Newtown
WITH 63 people currently on the waiting list for homes in the Newtownstewart area, it has been described as “disappointing,” that no social housing schemes are currently on the horizon.
Figures from the Housing Executive showed that of those 63 waiting, some 36 are categorised as being in ‘housing stress.’
“It is deeply disappointing that there are no plans for new social homes in Newtownstewart town,” SDLP councillor, Steven Edwards said.

“This is especially the case when looking at the current waiting lists with 63 people on the waiting list, 36 of those in housing stress.
“These figures mean (with only 18 people being allocated homes in the area per year) even if waiting lists weren’t added to, it would take three and a half years to deal with the waiting lists.
