Kidnapped FUNAAB student, others regain freedom
Police say the student and two others were released on Monday night

The 400-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Olayinka Toyinbo, and two others abducted on Saturday by suspected kidnappers, have regained freedom.
FUNAAB’s Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Kola Adepoju, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Mr Adepoju said that Mr Toyinbo, a student of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, College of Environmental Resources Management, was released by his abductors on Monday night unharmed, “safe and sound.”
He said Mr Toyinbo’s release had thrown the entire university community and particularly the students, who had, in the early hours of Monday, staged a peaceful protest, into a frenzy.

Scores of students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, on Monday, gave the state government a 72-hour ultimatum to ensure the release of their colleague, Olayinka Toyinbo, who was kidnapped in the Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The students, who staged a protest at the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abeokuta, carried placards with various inscriptions such as: ‘Free our students now’ and ‘I am a student not a prey to kidnappers’, among others.
Addressing journalists during the protest, the President, Students’ Union Government, FUNAAB, Michael Oloyede, threatened to disrupt activities if their colleague was not released before the expiration of the ultimatum.

Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Kola Adepoju, issued a statement announcing the incident on Sunday.
Toyinbo was abducted from a private farm in Abule Itoko, Odeda Local Government Area, around 8 am on Saturday.
A witness and friend said Toyinbo was kidnapped from the farm where he had been living and working as a livestock farmer for three years.
The friend added that the victim undertook the job to sustain himself as a self-sponsored indigent student.
FUNAAB authorities confirmed the matter has been reported to the State Police headquarters.
NAN reports that two other persons also abducted were the owner of the farm and a 17-year-old Togolese lady.
