The Students Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State in Nigeria’s Southwest region, has condemned in strongest terms, the midnight invasion of off-campus students hostels and arrest of a yet-to-identified number of students by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“The sting operation that yielded their arrest was a response to strident calls to the EFCC by neighbours and parents around the locations, to save their children from being lured into internet-related activities by the suspects,” Mr Oyewale said.
An education advocacy group, the Save Public Education Campaign (SPEC) has declared its support to the students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in their ongoing fight against over 300% increment of their tuition fees by the university management.
Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), yesterday, staged a protest at the South and North gates of the institution against hike in fees by the school management.
