JUSUN: Write your name on sands of history - NBA, JUSUN tell Gov Udom

The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA as well as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Akwa Ibom State chapter have asked Governor Udom Emmanuel to write his name on the annals of history by being the first governor to implement the financial autonomy of the judiciary in Nigeria. The associations insisted that Akwa Ibom Government has all it takes to implement the executive order 10 of the 1999 constitution even if other states do not have the capacity to do so. Recall that almost two weeks ago, JUSUN embarked on a nationwide indefinite strike in agitation for the implementation of its financial autonomy, which has directly stalled the judicial and court processes across Nigeria.

Judiciary, court processes grounded in Akwa Ibom as JUSUN begins strike

Daily Post Nigeria Published Judiciary activities in Akwa Ibom State have been grounded following the indefinite strike action by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN on Tuesday. Recall that the national leadership of JUSUN in a circular dated April 1, ordered the shut down of various courts across the country from Tuesday, April 1. The circular signed by JUSUN’s General Secretary, I. M. Adetola directed all states and zonal heads of the union to comply with the strike. The union said it had at its last National Executive Meeting on March 13, 2021 in Abuja, issued a 21-day ultimatum to the government to implement the financial autonomy of the judiciary with a threat that it will resume the suspended national strike action.

Again gunmen burn down Police Station in Imo State, free detainees

Daily Post Nigeria Published Gunmen on Tuesday attacked another police station in Imo State, freed suspects in detention and razed it down. This happened barely 24 hours after the Imo State Correctional Centre and the State Police Headquarters were attacked on Monday with many inmates set free. Tuesday’s incident happened a few hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu left the State. The VP, IGP and the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, were in the state to inspect the level of damage on the burnt security facilities. The Gunmen attacked and burnt Ehime Mbano Local Government Area Divisional Police Headquarters on Tuesday.

The union’s statement was signed by the Chairman, Ademola Babalola and Secretary, Sola Oladapo. “We can’t find appropriate words to describe the passing of a colleague and friend. Ogunyemi was a great journalist. “He gave a good account of himself as a judiciary correspondent, breaking many stories on the job.” The NUJ said Ogunyemi was a disciplined and principled individual who displayed a high level of dedication to every cause he believed in.
