Farmer-herder crisis: Six states reject FG’s livestock scheme OYETUNJI ABIOYE and JESUSEGUN ALAGBE Published 14 March 2021 OYETUNJI ABIOYE and JESUSEGUN ALAGBE Published 14 March 2021 • FCT, Ekiti, Ondo, Ebonyi, 17 northern states sign up for NLTP Six state governments, namely Delta, Cross River, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, and Edo have said they will not donate any land to be used as grazing reserves for herdsmen under the National Livestock Transformation Programme. However, 17 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as three southern states, namely Ekiti, Ondo, and Ebonyi, have signed up for the programme. The Federal Government had in February said it had mapped out 30 grazing reserves across the country for the planned implementation of the NLTP.

By George Odok Calabar, Jan. 7, 2021 The Cross River Government has inaugurated the COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (CARES) committee to steer the activities of the programme in the state between 2021 and 2023. Deputy Governor of the state, Prof. Ivara Esu, who inaugurated the team on Wednesday in Calabar, said that the project was timely and coming at a time when the nations economic needed to be stimulated with various programmes. Newsmen reports that CARES is a World Bank Assisted programme which is supported by the Federal and State Governments to stimulate the economy. According to Esu, with the coming in of the programme which is scheduled to start by April, the state will consolidate on the gains and reduce her poverty rate of 36.3 to at least a single digit.
