With spring also comes the arrival of storm season. In some areas of our state, we have already seen destruction caused by tornadoes. While Oklahomans are no strangers to severe weather, it is no less imperative to be ready and know what to do when weather conditions begin to escalate.

Late spring in Oklahoma often means the possibility of severe storms, particularly in the month of May. Some communities have already seen dangerous weather.
We certainly hope and pray communities will be spared from the wrath of severe weather, but it is critical to have readiness plans and supply kits on hand if storms strike.
The first step is to be alert. Whether you are at home, at work or on the road, always be aware and know where and when to take shelter if necessary. Heed warnings of the National Weather Service and of local meteorologists. To receive real time critical information, download the mobile app available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency: fema.gov/mobile-app. If you or a loved one is deaf or hard-of-hearing, there are unique alerts available through the Oklahoma Weather Alert Remote Notification (OK-WARN).
