Kelly Lynn wins Ward 3 Norman City Council seat, becomes second Unite Norman candidate to win election

Unite Norman-backed candidate Kelly Lynn won the Norman City Council Ward 3 election Tuesday night, becoming the second candidate endorsed by the organization to earn a city council seat. Lynn received 52.39 percent of votes cast, with Petrone attracting 47.61 percent of voters, according to unofficial online results from the Oklahoma State Election Board. In the Feb. 9 election, Lynn received 30.24 percent of the votes, while Petrone received 40.34. A national guard member and general practice lawyer for Pitts, Amend & Lynn Law Group LLC, Lynn previously told The Daily he hopes to “center the ship” on the city council and serve as a voice for conservative Normanites. Lynn joins Ward 5 Councilmember-elect Rarchar Tortorello as the councilmember-elect endorsed by Unite Norman.

Norman street maintenance bond proposal passes

Norman residents voted to pass a $27 million bond to fund the continued repairs, improvements and rehabilitation of existing roads, streets and intersections over the next five years.  The Street Maintenance Bond was initially approved in 2005, and residents vote on the program every five years to provide continuous maintenance, according to the City of Norman’s website. This year’s program is funded by a monthly flat property tax rate of $5.75 from residents with homes that are about $100,000 in market value.   With 48 of 50 precincts reporting, 66.66 percent of voters support the proposal, according to unofficial online results from the Oklahoma State Election Board. The bond will allocate about $20 million toward street rehabilitation and maintenance, $4 million toward roadway reconstruction and $2 million toward preventative maintenance.

PARTY AFFILIATION CHANGE: More than 2,600 Oklahomans changed political party affiliation since Capitol riot

Updated: 7:47 AM CST Jan 28, 2021 KOCO Staff Thousands of Oklahomans changed their political party affiliation in the days following the deadly riot on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board.According to the election board, more than 2,600 Oklahomans switched parties from Jan. 7 to Jan. 27. The majority about 1,500 switched from being Republican to being Independent.Officials said 370 former Republicans switched to the Democratic Party. More than 270 Democrats are now Republicans and about 140 joined the Independent Party.A handful of Oklahomans also switched to and from the Libertarian Party.
