Heide Brandes is an award-winning journalist with more than 20 years of published work. She is a member of SATW, NATJA and President of the Oklahoma Pro Chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists, having won multiple writing awards in each organization. Heide has bylines in National Geographic, Sierra Magazine, BBC, Cowboys & Indians, Marriott Bonvoy, Garden and Gun and more, and she is often a guest speaker at universities and on journalism panels. Heide was an investigative news reporter for 17 years before transitioning to travel journalism and served as the Oklahoma correspondent for Reuters News Service. When not traveling and writing, Heide is an avid hiker, a medieval reenactor, a professional bellydancer and bellydance instructor and kind of a quirky chick who lives in Oklahoma City.
