Jukebox hero: Jamie Oldaker items going to OKPOP, but his lasting gift was championing museum s creation

This is gift season. A collection of items from Oklahoma Music Hall of Famer Jamie Oldaker is being gifted to the Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture. OKPOP, which is under construction and is expected to open in late 2022, will honor actors, artists, authors, musicians and other Oklahoma “creatives,” including Oldaker. A “Tulsa Sound” music figure who died in July following a battle with cancer, Oldaker was a drummer whose skills were coveted by legends in the music industry. In addition to touring or recording with Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, Ace Frehley, Leon Russell and Stephen Stills, Oldaker was a founding member of the Tractors, and he played a major role in advancing Ronnie Dunn’s career.

OKPOP Foundation names executive director

Learning about OKPOP convinced Pamela Amburgy she wanted to be a part of it. “When I heard the story of OKPOP, I was blown away,” said Amburgy, the recently appointed executive director of the OKPOP Foundation, 501(c)(3) organized to support the activities of the Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture, known as OKPOP, under construction at 422 N. Main St. Amburgy’s background is in banking and nonprofits, including stints as the assistant director of development for Philbrook Museum of Art and as a loaned executive and later the director of planned giving for the Tulsa Area United Way. She has also been an OKPOP board member.
