Laden ready to shine again – deejay released from prison

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Dancehall recording artiste Laden is now a free man. The artiste, whose real name is O'keefe Aarons, was released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre on Friday afternoo.

Dancehall artiste Rytical charged with illegal possession of firearm

Rytical East Syde rising star Rytical was arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition at 8 Miles, Bull Bay yesterday.  The artiste, whose real name is Rohan McFarlane, reportedly spent the night in a jail cell at the Bull Bay Police Station. Checks with his management team confirmed that the deejay was in custody but they were tight-lipped with the details. We already have a lawyer in place to deal with the situation, a representative from East Syde Records said.  Reports from the Elletson Road police are that about midday, police were on patrol in the community when McFarlane, 25, was seen acting in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the police. He was questioned and his car searched and a Taurus .380 pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition found. He was subsequently arrested and charged. He s expected to spend the weekend in jail.

One of the lawyers for dancehall artiste Laden said that the Time To Shine deejay, who was on Monday sentenced to four years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearm, could be on the streets after about a year. Attorney-at-law Thomas Levene told THE STAR that In practical terms, he may apply for parole after one year . Laden benefited from sentencing discount under the Criminal Justice (Administration) (Amendment) Act because he pleaded guilty and did not waste the court s time. When Laden appeared in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court on Tuesday for sentencing hearing, fellow Rising Stars alum, singer Christopher Martin, and Cetany Holness, councillor for the Junction division in the St Elizabeth Municipal Corporation, served as character witnesses. The sentencing was delayed until yesterday.
