delivered immediately or promptly to the senate for trial. i find it ironic that the lind si grams of the world and the mitch mcconnell s of the world have told the person people that it will be a rigged trial. and they demand the articles of impeachment right now. that doesn t seem to make a lot of sense to me. senator, do you think this could backfire on democrats? fuelling the republican argument that the process is unfair? that is exactly what is going through my mind, i don t disagree with anything i heard here legally or institutionally. my concern is that those concerned about the integrity of the process, and of the functioning of the presidency, now have the high ground. we took a principaled position. we made our case in the house, it carried the day. now to provide an opportunity for the president to argument that he was not given a chance
let s dig deep sbeer into th. robert costa, and moderator former democratic senator from my home staid of thursday, he was serving when bill clinton was impeached in 1998. and david jolly, no longer affiliated with the party. if speaker pelosi holds on to these articles, could she hold it as leverage to get a fair trial. i don t think she does, i hate to second guess her, but i think she runs the risk here of changing both the momentum and the perceptions of these proceedings. i served in both institutions so i m defensive of both, but how the senate conducts their trial
mcconnell is a man driven by mcconnell. he is sitting in a state where trump won by 30 points. he will do whatever is in the best interest of mcconnell. i don t see any block. he doesn t want to have a trial. because a trial in the american system has witnesses, he doesn t want any witnesses, a trial in the american system does not allow the defendant to control who the witnesses are, and that is exactly what he wants to do. he wants to control the witnesses and a trial in the american system is considered a hung jury unless enough in the senate it would be 67 people that would have to vote to acquit. he doesn t want to end up with a hung jury trial or an oj jury
in sight, and the president is clearly trying to, as demagogues do, what does demagogue mean, it means people, he s trying to say they re not just attacking me, they re attacking you. you heard that all day yesterday about the 63 million, and they think we re deplorables, and i think that we re going to hear that throughout. it is a fairly sound political strategy, it seems to me. i guess that s what i would say if i had been caught trying to undermine my national election. you, in a fire you grab whatever can of water you can. but ultimately what the senate has to do here, if they re going to be true to their oaths, there needs to be a trial. this system needs to work.
garrett haake on the hill. he is going to tramp that enis them failing to get their investigative stump done. and it is the cooling saucer of partisan anger here. that the senate can and must in his view slow down his impeachment train, and ironically speeding up a trial. they have been dough in on the senate side. they still won t sit down together to meet to discuss the parameters of a possible trial coming up here. they are lobbing verbal hand grenades here. they take the floor here at 9:30 when they finish up.
