Game of governing and politics. Phil, you made a point that tweeting wasnt the same. Some people dont know what the hell it is now but it has changed dramatically since 2008. I put it even further context in, when i was in the white house, a couple of oust would meet up with leon panetta every night and we would look at the three tvs, abc, cbs, whatever the other one was and, see whether our good stories had risen or whether the bad stories had gone down. You could see wolf kind of standing out in the yard there without even an umbrella sometimes. That was a good day if your good story was up. Or down. That was all we dealt with. Now the, the onslaught of information, moving information all sorts of sinister reasons has fundamentally changed governing and strategies. Just three things that kind of pop out to me. And just in phrases. Its, what i hear you guys saying is that that youre underlying fundamental belief that people are coming to washington to get something done. You have look
Positive solutions to save and strengthen and secure medicare, medicaid and social security. And i cant wait to have our new members on the Budget Committee sink their teeth into these wonderful issues that are so important to solve if were going to get our fiscal house in order and create an economy that will thrive and grow. Third, i think that we have on the conservative side, we have either ignored or put on the back burner come back in, everyone grab their seats. Well begin our next session. We are excited to have congressman jeff duncan talk about his xpand act and the broader topic of energy across the country. I know senator demint is particularly excited the South Carolinaen on stage. I think you all know that jeff duncan has been a consistent conservative voice since coming to washington in 2010. That really, really important year of 2010. That class was really huge because it was a tea party surge sent here to washington to reform washington. And well hear later this afterno
85 of the projected growth in spending over the next decade is driven by health care and retirement entitlements and interest on the debt. So thats where reforms need to target. To balance the budget before the end of the decade, we saw in the last house budget, it takes more than 5 trillion in cuts. That is assuming you start cutting right away. If you decide to cut in future years and not address spending next year, it takes bigger cuts to get to that ballpoint. So the sooner lawmakers can start cutting, the better. Where exactly should they start . Repealing obama care has to be their First Priority simply because 44 of the growth in sbiltsment spending is driven by the health care law. So if we are to rein in growing spending and debt obama care is where we need to start. This needs to be combined with reforms to Medicare Medicaid, and Social Security. During this process, lawmakers should be guided by focusing benefits on those individuals with the greatest need and delivering tho
That increase highquality Educational Opportunities for every child. As chair of this caucus, ive had the opportunity to visit Charter Schools private schools and Online Learning Centers Across the country. One of the most impressive experiences i had was right here in washington, d. C. At basis Charter School. Basis teaches an elite advanced liberal arts curriculum utilizing latin, algebra and advanced science concepts in the fifth grade. The results of the school are off the charts. Theyre educating kids from every single zip code in the washington, d. C. Area. I participated in a question and answer session after these classes with the students, and they were smart talked a lot about hard work, extra hours after class and the challenges of their curriculum. They were proud of their opportunity. But their number one concern was how we could ensure that their friends, neighbors and relatives had the same kind of opportunity. Thats powerful. These kids recognized that the freedom to ch
Enemies than what we already have, and we want to bring many of them over to our side. So we have to be careful, i think, how we approach that. And you all know this better than i do but i think we need to learn more about other countries and other peoples and other cultures. My favorite example of that, i was privileged to be a joint chief of staff. And every year admiral lyons and the rest of us would order us to go down and steam around haiti. And every year we would go down and steam around circles in haiti and every year some Phi Beta Kappa on the joint chiefs of staff would announce were going to drop leaflets and every year i would remind them, its a great idea, but they cant read. And then we used speakers and spoke creole. We dont know what were talking about here in a lot of areas. Were not the most brilliant people in the world. If i want to thank the panel. I think youre on the right track. Somehow you failed to mention how were going to how were going to take advantage of
