investigation late this morning. just to see the photos i can tell you as a parent you know, i have a son about the same age in college. i have a daughter in college. so i was very disturbed by the pictures i saw yesterday. let s let the investigation go forth, but obviously i want an independent investigation, and i want to know exactly what s happened. so david culver is a reporter with our nbc station wrc in d.c. he joins me on the telephone from charlottesville. explain what we know that the abc agent and their agency is saying about the threat from the student and what the student is saying about the force from the officers. as far as what the agency is saying, they say that johnson, 20 years old, was rejected for some reason from going into the trinity irish pub. then it s not clear what then caused them to intervene and put him into custody. but during that incident is when they had to take him to the
reserve judgment on these matters until the oig investigation is completed. turning to our budget i want to thank all members for their work on the 2015 department of homeland security appropriations act. so we re hearing here from director clancy as he turns his attention now to the budget issues for the secret service. his opening remarks, talking about the fact there was an incident that happened on white house grounds on march the 4th. however, he did not learn about it until march the 9th. he did say that this was unacceptable to be learned about it five days after, and that his mission is too important to be undermined in certain instances like we ve just witnessed with this incident on march the 4th. he said that it s currently under investigation but went on to make sure everybody knows about the footage from the crash, that it did demonstrate that there was not a crash and that the officers came into the scene about 1 to 2 miles an hour, pushing aside a plastic

ground, and that s when they say he cut his forehead and started bleeding profusely. i can tell you in the past hours since we ve talked, there have been several impromptu protests here on the ground. they re all peaceful but students here many of them don t even know the victim are coming together and just outraged mostly because of that image. it s sparked this collective discomfort with police right here in charlottesville. all right. so david, explain who has control over the investigation. we know that the alcohol beverage control agency is working to remain cooperative through the investigation, but also with governor mcauliffe announcing the state investigation will be taking place as well. if you look at the hierarchy, sure, they have their own chairman, but you re right. ultimately it s governor terry mcauliffe. he s the one who s now said he wants the state police here in
