MIDDLETOWN State police said a truck driver was killed Thursday afternoon after his dump truck struck a disabled vehicle, rolled over and went into the guardrail on the southbound side of Interstate 91.
Troopers have identified the victim as Branford resident Richard Vining, who turned 69 that same day.
State police said Vining had just gotten on to I-91 south at the Exit 20 on-ramp and was in the acceleration lane when his Peterbilt truck collided with a GMC van “for an unknown reason”. The smaller vehicle was “parked and unoccupied” in the acceleration lane, state police said.

A man was killed in a single-car crash Sunday in the southbound lanes of Route 9 in Berlin, state police said.
Troopers were called Route 9 near Exit 23 just after midnight on reports of a crash, officials said.
The driver, identified as Ahmed Durrant, was traveling southbound when he lost control of the vehicle, according to a state police report. The vehicle veered from the roadway, striking a metal beam guide rail on the left and right side of Route 9. Ahmed suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene, state police said.
