Marlen Rust hopes the recent 17-year cicada event will bug us to think about what we will be doing 17 years from now.
The retired biology professor (University of Illinois at Chicago Circle campus) is enamored with Brood X s vermillion eyes and long lives. Insects deserve their own course, she said as she stacked her origami cicadas. When she was a biology major in college, she studied invertebrate zoology and still regrets she didn t take entomology.
She s making up for that now.
